A free update adds new quests, dual-wielding, cyberware customisation and mod support as CD Projekt Red brings more of Edgerunners 2 into the game.
Night City has a few more stories to tell.
CD Projekt Red has released the Edgerunners 2 Update, also known as Update 2.5, for Cyberpunk 2077. The free update introduces a quest connected to the latest anime series, alongside new combat options, customisation features and support for community-created mods.
It arrived on 22 October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and supported Mac storefronts. CD Projekt Red said the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store versions would follow later.
For players who have already finished V’s story, the additions offer several reasons to visit the city again—and a few new ways to experience it.
A new story connects the game to Edgerunners 2
The update’s headline quest, Clampdown, takes place before the events of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
During the mission, V crosses paths with Weak Kingsley, one of the anime’s central characters, and his crew. The quest also takes players to Night City Prison, a new location introduced for the mission.
Players can pick up a five-piece gear set based on King during the quest. The update also adds HKGN 102.0 FM, a radio station featuring music from the Edgerunners series.
To unlock Clampdown, players must complete The Heist and two gigs for Wakako, then wait for her to send a message.
That makes the quest an extra stop for returning players, while giving newcomers another assignment to discover as they build their reputation in Night City.
Dual-wielding brings a new combat style
For players who enjoy charging into a fight with firearms, Update 2.5 introduces the option to carry a weapon in each hand.
The Double Trouble perk in the Cool skill tree unlocks dual-wielding for Power-category pistols and revolvers. Additional perks support the playstyle, giving players another way to shape V’s combat abilities.
It is a relatively simple idea, but one that could make an existing playthrough feel different. Players who have previously relied on blades, hacking or a single favourite handgun now have another reason to experiment with their build.
Console players can explore community mods
One of the update’s most significant additions is cross-platform mod support through mod.io.
A new in-game menu lets players browse and install a selection of community-created mods. CD Projekt Red describes the feature as a first step, with more supported mods expected to become available over time. That opens up new possibilities for console players who have watched the PC modding community reshape Night City over the years. The available selection may differ from the broader range of existing PC mods, so players should check the in-game catalogue to see what is supported.
There is one detail for trophy and achievement hunters: CD Projekt Red says achievements and trophies cannot be earned on consoles while playing from a modded save file. Modded saves are marked in the load-game menu.
More ways to customise V
Night City has always been a place where appearance matters, and the update expands the options for players who want their version of V to stand out.
New vendors called Glamdocs can change the appearance of compatible arm cyberware, including Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System. Players can choose from different designs and customise their colours.
The update also adds clothing sets, hairstyles and new Photo Mode poses. CD Projekt Red says some hairstyles are restricted to particular body types.
These additions are unlikely to change the direction of the story, but they offer returning players a chance to give V a new look before heading back out onto the streets.
More to discover around Night City
The Edgerunners connection is not the only new quest in Update 2.5.
Welcome to Paradise takes players on a guided tour of Night City narrated by its late founder, Richard Night. The quest unlocks after completing The Heist and reaching Street Cred level 15.
There are also 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards to find, with an associated side quest and a reward for collecting them all.
For players who enjoy exploring between missions, these additions provide a reason to slow down and look around a city they may have already spent dozens of hours travelling through.
The update includes smaller improvements, too. Console players receive a field-of-view slider, saves are now grouped by playthrough, and item filters have been added to apartment and vehicle stashes.
Do you need Phantom Liberty?
No. CD Projekt Red says the Edgerunners 2 Update is free for owners of the base game. Players do not need to buy Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition to access it.
The developer also says players can continue from an existing save; there is no need to start a new game to receive the update. Individual quests still have their own unlock requirements.
Players on older consoles should check their version: the Xbox One edition, for example, is no longer supported with newer patches.
A reason to revisit Night City
Update 2.5 may not be a full expansion, but its combination of new quests, combat options and community mods gives returning players several ways to find something different.
For Edgerunners fans, there is another connection between the anime and the game. For players who simply miss exploring Night City, there are new sights, styles and activities waiting for them.
And for those who have been looking for an excuse to start another playthrough, dual-wielding and a fresh collection of mods might be enough to make the journey feel a little different this time.
