The latest sneak peek revisits Lara’s original adventure ahead of the reimagining’s February 2027 release.
A new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has been released as part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations, offering another glimpse of Lara Croft’s return to her debut adventure.
Publisher Amazon Games and developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog shared the anniversary teaser on 25 October. The footage gives fans a fresh look at the reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider.
The game remains scheduled to launch on 12 February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam.
Lara returns to familiar territory
The new sneak peek was revealed at TR30 Derby and MCM London, with the official Play Tomb Raider account highlighting teases of recognisable content.
The footage features Lara wielding her dual pistols and a shotgun, swinging across structures and confronting dangerous wildlife. It is a short showcase of the action and traversal players can expect, rather than a lengthy gameplay demonstration.
For returning fans, the attraction is seeing familiar ideas brought into a more detailed world. For newcomers, it offers an introduction to an adventure built around exploration, environmental puzzles and hazardous encounters.
A reimagining of Lara’s first adventure
Legacy of Atlantis revisits Lara’s search for the scattered pieces of the Scion, a powerful artefact connected to Atlantis.
Its journey takes players through locations including Peru, Greece and Egypt, with Lara’s athletic abilities, weapons and ingenuity central to overcoming their dangers.
This is a substantial reworking of the original game. Built using Unreal Engine 5, it combines a new visual presentation with redesigned environments and gameplay.
Crystal Dynamics has previously explained that spaces which once stood separately now connect, creating additional routes and different ways to approach exploration. Puzzles in Peru’s Lost Valley have also been redesigned, including a new interpretation of the familiar cog puzzle.
That approach gives returning players something to discover beyond recognising an old location.
The challenge of revisiting a classic
From GameOrbit’s perspective, the most interesting question is how well Legacy of Atlantis can preserve the feeling of discovery while changing the adventure around it.
The original’s appeal gives the developers a strong foundation: unfamiliar spaces, dangerous routes and the satisfaction of working out how to move forward.
Modern controls and more elaborate environments could strengthen that experience, provided the game leaves room for players to observe, experiment and solve problems themselves.
The anniversary teaser offers another taste of the presentation. The finished game will need to show how its exploration, combat and puzzles work together across a complete adventure.
