GTA VI reportedly has a 210GB download size as players prepare for launch

A new report suggests PlayStation 5 players may need to clear significant storage space for Rockstar’s next game, although the final requirement has not been officially confirmed.

Players planning to explore Vice City next month may have another task to complete before launch: making room on their console.

Grand Theft Auto VI reportedly has a download size of 210GB on PlayStation 5, according to a claim shared by the tracking account PlayStation Game Size.

The figure was posted on 27 October, with Insider Gaming reporting that it had independently corroborated the information. Rockstar Games has not publicly confirmed the download size, so the number should still be treated as a report rather than a final official requirement.

If the figure is accurate, GTA VI will take up a substantial amount of space on players’ consoles—and some may need to remove other games before they can begin their journey through Leonida.

Where did the 210GB claim come from?

The reported size appeared in a social media post from PlayStation Game Size, an account known for sharing information about upcoming PlayStation downloads.

The post listed GTA VI’s download size as 210GB, alongside a preload date of 12 November and a release date of 19 November. Insider Gaming subsequently said it could corroborate the size.

That gives players a more specific figure than the wide range of estimates previously circulating online. However, neither the post nor the subsequent coverage amounts to an official announcement from Rockstar.

The report concerns the PS5 version. An equivalent figure for Xbox Series X|S has not been established, and players should not assume it will be identical.

How much storage space will players need?

If the reported download size is accurate, PS5 players should expect GTA VI to occupy a sizeable portion of their storage.

For perspective, 210GB is close to a third of the approximately 667GB of usable storage on an original model PS5. Players who already have several large games installed could find they need to make some difficult decisions about what stays on their console. However, download size and installed size are not always the same thing. A console may also need additional temporary space during installation or updates.

For that reason, clearing exactly 210GB may not necessarily be enough. The final amount required could depend on the version downloaded and any updates released around launch.

Could a day-one update make it bigger?

It is possible that GTA VI will receive an update around release, but Rockstar has not confirmed whether there will be a day-one patch or how large one might be.

Updates can add or replace files, fix problems and make other changes. That means the space needed after launch may differ from an earlier download figure; it would be premature to add an assumed patch size to the reported 210GB.

Players hoping to prepare their consoles can check how much storage they have available and consider removing games they are no longer playing. It is worth checking the official store listing again closer to launch before making a final decision.

When can players preload GTA VI?

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA VI preloading begins on 12 November, ahead of its scheduled release on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Preloading allows eligible players to download the game before it becomes playable. For anyone with a slower internet connection, that week could provide valuable time to get the download finished before release.

Rockstar has also confirmed that boxed versions of GTA VI contain a download code rather than a game disc. Players buying a boxed edition should therefore still expect to download the game and make room for it on their console. A big download for a big return

GTA VI’s return to Vice City has been the subject of years of anticipation, and the reported file size has given fans another detail to discuss as launch approaches.

A large download does not, by itself, tell us how much content the game contains or how good that content will be. It does, however, give players a reason to check their storage and internet connection before preload begins.

For now, 210GB is the reported PS5 download size, supported by Insider Gaming’s reporting but not publicly confirmed by Rockstar. Xbox players will need to wait for a reliable figure for their platform.

Would a 210GB download mean deleting games from your console, or have you already made room for GTA VI?
