Where is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet? Naughty Dog explains the wait for its next reveal

The sci-fi adventure has largely stayed out of the spotlight since its announcement, but Naughty Dog has confirmed when players can expect a proper look.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet made an intriguing first impression when Naughty Dog announced it in December 2024. A new science-fiction universe from the studio behind Uncharted and The Last of Us was enough to attract attention, even before players knew much about the adventure itself.

Almost two years later, there are still substantial questions about how the game will play. However, the wait for another major showing now has an official timeframe: Naughty Dog plans to fully reveal Intergalactic in 2027.

The silence has an explanation

In a studio update dated 28 September 2026, Neil Druckmann directly addressed the question of when Intergalactic would return to the spotlight.

He described the project as Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet, while explaining that the team needed more time before showing it properly.

“We’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year,” Druckmann wrote. “In 2027, that changes.”

That gives fans a clearer expectation than simply hoping the game appears at the next showcase. Naughty Dog has acknowledged the long wait and set out its intention to provide a fuller look next year, without naming a particular month or event.

What is Intergalactic about?

Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic follows Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter stranded on Sempiria.

The planet has been isolated from the wider universe for centuries. Jordan must use her abilities and ingenuity to become the first person in more than 600 years to escape its orbit. The game is in development for PlayStation 5.

It is a premise with plenty of potential: an unfamiliar world, a mystery surrounding its isolation and a protagonist trying to find a way out.

For Naughty Dog, it also offers an opportunity to establish a setting without relying on characters and relationships audiences already know.

The next showing needs to explain the game

An announcement can establish atmosphere. The next substantial reveal needs to show what spending time in that world actually involves.

How does Jordan move through Sempiria? What is the balance between exploration, combat and storytelling? How much freedom will players have to investigate their surroundings?

These are the questions a sustained gameplay demonstration could answer more effectively than another short cinematic trailer.

From GameOrbit’s perspective, the most useful next look would follow a section of the adventure long enough to establish its rhythm. Seeing how exploration leads into an encounter, and how that encounter develops, would help explain what distinguishes Intergalactic from Naughty Dog’s previous work.

When might we hear more?

The confirmed answer is 2027. The exact occasion remains unannounced. Naughty Dog’s September statement also makes another major appearance before the end of 2026 unlikely, based on the studio’s stated plans.

A PlayStation presentation or a dedicated Naughty Dog reveal would be plausible places to show the game, but those are possibilities rather than confirmed arrangements.

There is another distinction worth making: a reveal planned for 2027 does not establish a 2027 release date. The announcement concerns when the studio intends to show more, rather than when players will get the finished game.

A quieter project still has something to prove

A gap between major appearances can be frustrating, especially when an announcement leaves so much unexplained. It also offers limited evidence for judging the finished game.

The next reveal will be the more meaningful test. Intergalactic needs to demonstrate a compelling adventure beneath its intriguing premise, with gameplay that makes Jordan’s journey worth following.

For now, Naughty Dog has given fans a year to watch. What they will want next is a reason to be excited beyond the studio’s name.

What would you most like to see in Intergalactic’s next reveal: combat, exploration or more of its story?
